Jo started to ride horses at 2 years of age, and over 40 years later knows she still has an awful lot to learn. After spending her first 18 years living and breathing horses, she then spent the next two decades building and running businesses in London. Since moving to South Africa in 2008, she has once again devoted herself full time to horses.
Jo is passionate about horses and their welfare. She is also a Certified Equinology Equine Body Worker (EEBW), which is an internationally recognised professional qualification. As an Equinology Body Worker she provides a unique blend of sports massage, soft tissue mobilization and release, stretching, and point therapy. Her work emphasizes proper and safe techniques; all anatomically referenced.

Jo is determined to ensure that all horses on the Farm are cared for in line with the high standards she grew up with in England. Jo’s own horses are treated as her children and she considers all horses in her care to be part of the family. She uses a number of natural training methods and wellness modalities.
Jo and Doug bought The Hemel en Aarde Farm after over 2 years of searching for the perfect location. They had been looking for the ideal place to build a heavenly Equine Retreat, so the farm name is particularly fitting.
Doug has totally bought into Jo’s dream of having an equine facility of the highest standard and, although not as ‘hands on’ with the horses on a daily basis, enjoys riding and developing the Farm.
